As of 12AM last night, The Transit Site has been taken off the web. Not because TransLink filed a suit against. I've just been really busy with stuff and because it hasn't been updated in a while, it just Auto Deleted its self. I will however not give up on it. But I might try some different ideas whenever I get around to it. For now, this is where I'll be posting things.

Glitches, Glitches, and more glitches.

Nearly a year ago I had promised an updated site. With all the trimmings, and shiny objects. Well we're coming up on the two year anniversary and like clockwork we've got glitches. So far, when I updated the design of the blog it was fine. Worked great. Then I updated the software, and well... it's not working. Again.

I go two steps forward, and three back. Well technically the saying is "Two steps forward, and one back." But in this case I'm defaulting to my original blog. Sadly. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just old and... well its where I got my start in web design. So I tend to lurk here.

Its like ... when you were a kid, and you moved out of your old neighborhood. Only to come back about 25 years later with a family of your own. Sadly, this is just how it is. I'll gladly live with this. At least till I start college, which I am hoping to do.

Ok, so with that out of the way. Lets move on to transit stuff.

We also are getting a bunch of demo buses to be tested. Now before the blog went down, I had a review posted on the first demo we got last month known as the Orion VIING. So I'll have to retype that out. Which isn't hard considering, I had details I forgot about and never wrote about.

The next demo we'll be getting is the New Flyer Excesior, which has already arrived. And is due to start service in the coming weeks. First with West Vancouver, and then with Translink. Or rather CMBC. Its going to be tested the same way the Orion VIING was tested, ergo I don't have high hopes for where it'll end up when its driven by CMBC.

Then the final demo we'll be getting is the NovaBus LFS Artic. That's set to come and arrive in the summer. And who knows, we could be getting other demos. Like a New Flyer XC60. Hah! I wish. No seriously, I wish. But, we already know translink's position on CNG.

Speaking of CNG, all the C40LF's that havn't been converted to diesel, are now sitting Inside Oakridge Transit Center. Along side the C40's, and historical trolleys.

That's also got an interesting story behind it, the section of the garage that they are stored in. Is being torn down, so they'll be exposed to the weather for a short amount of time. That includes two brill trolleys, two flyer trolleys and a BBC with no license places. Yes, that is to the tune of 12 days of Christmas. Which we are 6 months away from folks!

I don't even know why I did that, or why I'm keeping track. But that said, and done. I've gotten you folks up to date on the going on with transit on this side of the coast. Oh wait, one last thing. With the two year anniversary coming up, I feel like I should change the logo of the site. Because, you know using another company's logo for a site. Is bad form. So, for anyone who's decided to read this blog post.

Summer Service Changes

As you all know summer is comming up, and since school is over. Website updates will be comming really quickly, also in the comming days and weeks certain pages will be, removed or updated depending on the page. At the time of this writing two pages that will be removed as of 11:59PM PST are as follows: The Transit Site YouTube page and The Transit Blog. Both pages are scheduled to be back online either the end of the week or on the 11th of June, 2010. You will notice that from time to time links will not work, any other concerns or comments can be sent to the transit site twitter feed or by clicking on the facebook profile badge on the Right side of your screen. Ok, since it has been a little over a month since my last website update I figured that I would state the reason why as usual, it has been dormant.

Because I am but 4 weeks away from the end of high school, I have been inundated with homework. But do not worry, I've got a couple of surprises due for about mid June. Two due for about the first of June. Or something like that.

Unlike the usual times where technology fails me, this time technology has not failed me. Its just school that gets in the way. Then after high school comes work... and then... life... oh fun. Ah well its better then being like an average teen where they're all going to parties and getting hammered and smashed beyond belief or getting sent right up to the moon or mars. I however like what I do. Anyways I should end this blog post before I start rambling or musing about the "normal" teenagers.

For a while its been quiet at the Transit Blog. Mainly because school has decided to get things in gear for graduation. I know its only April... but its 10 WEEKS away! Anyways for the last couple I've been working on a few things, mostly some superficial updates on the site. Plus some other projects. One of these projects is my business card. There have been several evolutions of it, as you will see in the next several pictures.

Actually, eventually I'll have a few versions of my business card. I don't know why, but it might be nice to have a few variations on business cards. Plus a way to set yourself apart. Saturday Updates

Todays updates aren't going to be impressive. Fixed the issue on the Videos page, and updated two videos and uploaded a new video. West Vancouver Municipal Transit 1998 NovaBus LFS 981 (Ex. BC Transit 7298) and 2007-2009 Hyundai Rotem XG-EMU - Canada Line Train, have been updated and fixed. West Vancouver Municipal Transit 2007 New Flyer D60LFR 712 (Ex. TransLink 8102), is the newest addition to the Video's section.

As you may have noticed, today had a couple of updates. Or maybe you haven't since you've been living under a rock. Anyways starting today, you might see some updates come fairly often. For those of you who come here often, here's a direct quote from something i typed out last month but haven't had a chance to publish.

To Whom It May Concern:

Due to the lack of updates over the last month and a bit (Mid-Jan to Mid Feb and over the last 4 and half months), I would like to take this time to thank all of you for waiting and continuing to pass the word about my site. (Mind you i highly doubt that anyone actually reads my blog, but continuing on) So for the time being, and until further notice; the site may gain a few updates here and there. But it will not be anything major, you are also reminded that due to constant issues and technical glitches that in a month (that's going to maybe be in March or April) you might see another announcement that the site is down for maintenance. Or due to a technical glitch, either way it'll be a glitch of some kind.

However in the event that, the site goes a month without a technical glitch of some kind; there may be a celebration of some kind. But don't count on it. Again I'd like to take the time to thank you guys for your patience (And once again, not many people actually visit this blog. Ah well Cest la vie)

A week and a half later...

As usual, my updates haven't gone according to what goes on in my mind. Although when you've got a computer that likes to reboot after watching several videos, you start being very cautious when you're doing anything on the computer. Now only a small portion of the things I planned on getting uploaded were actually uploaded; the new intro and a new sub-section was posted today. I do get off track often, but eventually I come back to what I was initially doing. Anyways withought further adieu here's a short list of what I've posted today:

Changed the intro animation, added a page for Community Shuttles, also added one sub-galleries in the shuttles page and changed the name of the side bar from featured pictures to newest pictures, Blog post comming soon... Front Page and Community Shuttles.

Now for something that will eventually come off my computer, and be printed:

What you see is almost the final design for my business card. Yes it looks just like a page from my site, that is an intended design. Although compared to my other one, it looks much better. Plus I should have a finalized design on either a re-done logo or something brand new. In case you're wondering that is a bar-code on the the card. Its meant to make it easier for people to see the mobile version of my site. Which as of this writing, is up and running 100%.

Hopefully i can get more galleries up this week. But knowing me and my computer, its either not going to happen or will be delayed anywhere from a week to a month. I should also mention that, there's now a dedicated twitter feed for the site and blog, if you want to find it the link is on the right side of the screen. Or you can just click on @thetransitsite, for news, info and updates about the site.

Lack of Updates-Upcoming stuff.

As you may or may not have noticed, there has been a lack of updates to my site. There's so many reason's for this it would take you an hour to read. So I'll just sum it up: I'm back in school for my last semester before going back; I had work experience last week; and I've just been sorting pictures so you (the viewer) can have a better variety then what you currently see.

I've lost track with however many pictures there are on the site, but there's A LOT. Although its been an interesting ride so far; there are many, many pages to come and so many pictures as well.

Now for a preview on what's to come:

Now, what you see above; is a work in progress business card. The only things I'm currently working on are: a new logo and a change in the background. If you are wondering what the bar-code is all about, that explanation will come when I unveil the new logo. But the new logo will only be used on the business card, the current one will be used on the site. Sort of like the different branding and logo's of the translink system.

Delay in updates

I bet you're wondering why there's been a lack of updates in the last few days. If you're not, then it doesn't matter because I'm still going to tell you. Because I'm working on getting some galleries to be up on new years eve and maybe even new years day. Its a big section, so it'll be a kind of way to start off the new year. By the way, my last site update was... about 8 days ago. Now don't worry I will still be updating it. But when school starts next week it's not going to be as frequent. Maybe about every weekend. But it'll be a very BIG update, I WILL make it HAPPEN. Anyways I'm going to do a little bit more work on my site, so bai for now.

Recent Finds

Recently it has come to my attention that since the server change, my site doesn't show up on a web search. I've tried it and all it shows is the old site,don't worry because I have plans for that section. Yet if you Google the transit blog, it shows up. But if I could figure out a way for my site to show up on a web-search I would. Anyways, as you may or may not have noticed some parts of my site are missing. Soon I will have the whole site up and running, then some major changes are coming up. Who knows maybe in December or January you'll be seeing more pictures added.

Kid in the 90's

Lately I've been reminded of being a kid in the 90's, why I'm being reminded I don't know. But what I do know is that I miss the care free days. Never did think I was ever going to say that, but I am. Now for a bit of a back story...

"100 million"... oops not that far back... "President John"... still too far... "Beat It was rated"... c'mon do something right for once *kicks time machine*... "ITS A BOY!!" Ok finally... Basically I was born in Vancouver... not shocking really, but its the things that happened then that made all the difference.

From the days that we had a Basketball Team called the Grizzlies, when Canadian Airlines was one of the Best Airlines, When there was only 250 Pokemon Cards (now there's like what 2500), When Pluto was actually a planet and dog and astronomy books mentioned about planet X, when there were good TV Shows like: Digimon (still like that show up to today, and if you don't like that fact then you can suck it), Dragon-ball Z, Pokemon, Saved by The Bell, and a bottle of pop was 75 cents. But that was then, now when you turn the TV on what do you find.. people fighting with balls, sex and Violence is everywhere on TV, you can't walk around in the summer without seeing girls walking around with skirts so short you could mistake them for underwear.

Heck even rap has gone downhill they've gone from Rapping about their hood and life there, now its just swearing and talking about their girls, and shooting stuff. On that note look at the people who can sing on both Canadian and American idol, most of the stuff they sing is all repetition, and now you can't find a song without someone moaning or groaning. And every time there's a winner its someone who looks good but sucks at singing, and look at all the others that were in the top 5 for every season, they did well. Versus the people that came in first place...

Ok getting off topic here.. but when I was younger and used to watch tv, we actually had Saturday morning cartoons, and good shows too. I'm sure we all remember the days of watching loony toons, sonic, Scooby Doo, Pinky and the Brain, Ren and Stimpy umm... Dragonball Z, Pokemon, and Digimon. But all those were very well written and made sense... in a cartoon way... but they have one thing in common. They all had some well written characters and they're not as odd too, and at one point we could relate to them, now look at what's on TV... need I say more.

Yet look at what people are wearing today, you have dude's with their pants down so low you can see their underwear, girls with skirts so high they bend over and you've seen... then their are the people who wear shorts that are really tight and really short and there are people who shouldn't be wearing them... cause nobody wants to know what's going on there.

But honestly its where you live that makes all the difference, cause if you've grown up in the same city there are things that you remember that one day people would be amazed... Think of this, when i was growing up, it was normal to be playing soccer and hockey in the middle of the street, and your friends lived either on the same street or the street over. Now parents are afraid that you'll be hit by a car or get kidnapped, so its rare that'll happen. Remember the days of sledding without a helmet, look at it now, people are sledding with them on, and wheres the fun in feeling the wind in your hair as you're going down a hill.

Also when my folks and I used to go downtown for shopping, I can remember the days of both trolleybuses going down Granville and the 8 floor Eaton's store, which is now a sears that's... what 3 or 4 floors? And who can forget the good old "Vancouver Grizzlies?", and when there actually was a time when Metrotown was two different malls; Eaton's Centre and Metrotown Mall.

Yes I grew up in Burnaby, but not with a car but with transit.... But before I go into that let me explain a few things, I've grown up in 4 different Cities; Vancouver, New Westminster, Burnaby and Coquitlam. Over the years I've gone back countless times to see the changes; Vancouver's gotten bigger and the old places i once liked going to are now gone... Eaton's Centre in Burnaby is now Metrotown and is the Second Largest Mall in western Canada, Coquitlam Center got bigger, Middlegate is now Highgate, the downtown Eaton's Store is now Sears, there's not going to be an IMAX at Canada place next year, no more indy 500 or was it 5000, Bus Service in the Tri-Cities now blows, Phone Company isn't as nice as they used to be, 7 digit numbers don't exist anymore, 604 is starting to get rare to find, gas used to be 60-90 cents a liter and teachers used to care about you and not claim you had ADD or ADHD because they were lazy or didn't want to deal with you.

But as a kid in the 90's i remember the days of the Skytrain going only to New Westminster then to Columbia then Scott Road and then King George. On the topic of transit in the city, I do remember the old bus loop at Lougheed Mall, the old Lougheed Highway park and ride in Coquitlam, and the routing of the old Burnaby, New Westminster and Coquitlam Diesel bus routes before the Millennium Line. But its what I rode that I used to like... Fishbowls, Flyer Triesels, Classics, D40's in North Van and D60's on the 99 B-Line. Yes i brought that back... that really long route from Lougheed Mall to UBC. If you lived in Coquitlam or Burnaby, that was one of the ways you could get to Vancouver by Bus. Plus do you remember when people actually folded their strollers and had the kid sit on their lap, yea its been a long time since I've seen that.

Yet as the world changes, so does the city... and one day when my grand-kids ask me "what did the city look like when you were a kid?" I will tell them about everything that i can remember... but you know one day i may go back to my old elementary schools and pay them a visit only because i get bored and want to see if anything's changed. And maybe just maybe see if that old class picture is still on the walls of the school...

Due to a technicality I can no longer call my blog Transit Shots. I have now changed it to: "The Transit Blog". Thanks to Chris Cassidy of BusShots for the idea. A little bit of history for you guys, when i first started this place out about 3 years ago originally it was going to be about my life in high school... but then there wasn't just much to talk about in high school. So I turned to my Hobby and so the name stuck; Life In High School but then last week i changed the name and the place to: Transit Shots, and now a week later its now changed to its current name. And you'll no doubt notice I now have a brand new banner put up. Anyways its 10 after 11pm time for me to wrap this post up.

Transit on film: Atomic Train

Some Monday film fun! Thanks to Bryan for pointing out this clip of a West Vancouver Blue Bus in the TV movie Atomic Train. (The bus can be seen at 3:45 in the clip.)

Atomic Train is from 1999 so I don’t have any info on the film shoot, as I don’t know who was handling the film requests at that time. But just look at how young Mena Suvari is! And Charlotte from Sex & the City plays her mom!

Bryan also mentioned that Look Who’s Talking filmed some clips on Vancouver transit way back when too. Has anyone seen transit-related clips from that film? I’d love to see Travolta or Kirstie Alley or that wacky baby riding a trolley :)

Well folks i might as well give you a run down on my life right now, I'm now single and have been since... February. I now own a BlackBerry, there's just 25 days left in the school year, as for those pictures... yea those may not be coming at all. Oh wow the world was buzzing so i figured I'd post this up, this week has been interesting. yesterday it was announced in Edmonton that the BBC trolley's would be retired at the end of the month, one year ahead of schedule, and its not the 31st that your thinking of it'll be less then 10 days from now. Now when i saw the Susan Boyle video this afternoon holy shit i have to say she has a voice, I'm willing to say that she will go far, and a bit more... sure i've seen that video about 20+ times today but just for the hell of it I'll post it on my blog... wow... that thing is everywhere... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnmbJzH93NU

April Update

Oh man, 2 months since my last post, wow... and yet I'm still keeping track of this place. Anyways a couple of things here. 1) I might be moving my pictures to majhost, for a number of reasons but mostly because its free. Sure Flickr is good, well its actually awesome, but in order for you to use to to its full potential you need to have a pro account and i just don't have the money right now. Yes times are tough, even for me. Anyways, i think this is the third time i've had to move pictures around. Ah well anyways enough banter, time for thoes updates and this time its videos and its the last few that i never got around to showing you guys, now if only i could figure out how to put them on the side. Oh and you might of noticed i have twitter, so go ahead follow my updates.

You'll Know doubt notice that some of this videos was taken during that insanely large snowfall we had this year. But still it was kinda cool.

The first of 48 new SkyTrain cars has arrived at SkyTrain headquarters! I took a video because a photo couldn’t quite capture the whole train — beware, you can hear me talking in it.

Bet you didn’t expect it to be grey and blue, did you? The cars are painted to match the new livery on the bus fleet. It’s so different from the white SkyTrain cars, but you might see them mixed and matched in the future—the new cars, which are all Mark II cars, can be attached to the older white Mark II cars.

Two of the 48 cars have actually arrived: you can see one in front of the other in the video and the photos later in this post. They will be paired into a single train with that grey accordion bit in the middle. (For those that don’t know, the Mark II cars are the newer looking cars with the grey accordion gangway in the middle. Mark Is are the classic cars from the 80s.)

The new cars are currently being un-shrink-wrapped and getting some parts installed, and will then undergo testing and commissioning before starting service later this year. They also have awesome new interiors with exciting features — but I can’t share them all with you until we do an official launch in a month or so! Be patient though: I’ll be all over that when the official launch happens :)

Hello peoplz, yes i know its been a very looong time since i last made a post here... mind you i don't think anyone ever reads this place... but I've been proven wrong before... so prove me wrong this time... anyways... *sighs* lets get down to whats been going on in the last 3 months I've been gone...
where to begin... oh yes... August was a roller coaster... for many reasons... none of which i will mention. September... what to say about that besides starting a new school year and restarting an old story of mine. As for October, that month was probably one of the most interesting months for me... a number of things happened, i found out that the person who i thought had a grudge against me didn't... umm.... I'm not single anymore... that's a plus... so yea... now that you're up to snuff on the last three months... we shall now return to the normal stuff...

Well its unofficial but... were halfway through the summer, and surprisingly not much has happened. I'm at the point, where I'm so bored, I'm looking forward to going BACK TO SCHOOL!! I'm Bryan and I'm a Grade 10 Student (not joking) and currently going to school in SD 41 (thats Burnaby for anyone not in the Vancouver Area). Hi, its me your wonderful, lovable webmaster. So its been 24 hours since i started this and the site has had close to 300 views O.o. Now thats something i didn't think would ever happen, just goes to show you never know how many people visit the site till you add a counter.
